James Shelby Embry Sr., 83, of New Albany, IN, died peacefully Tuesday, May 10, 2022, in Charleston, WV, where he lived the last eight years with his daughter and family. Shelby was born in Caneyville, Grayson County, KY on May 7, 1939. He lived in Breckinridge County growing up. On September 1, 1961, he married Nancye Caroland and they were married 52 years until her death on January 12, 2014. Shelby and Nancye ultimately settled in New Albany, IN, and he worked at Standard Foods, Container Corporation, Hoosier Panel and Air Guard for many years before he and Nancye retired. He loved watching any NASCAR race and University of Kentucky basketball game. He enjoyed being a Wildcat fan in Hoosier Country at Vic's Cafe in New Albany. Shelby and Nancye raised three children, Pamela S., James S. Jr. and John T. Embry, Sr. Shelby was preceded in death by his parents, James Carlos Embry, and Nennie Lucas Wilson, and his stepfather, David Wilson of Valley Station, three brothers, John Lucas, Larry, and Joe, and one grandson, John Embry, Jr. Shelby is survived by his daughter, Pamela S. (Mark) Heath of Charleston, WV; James S. Embry Jr. (Beverly), and John T. Embry, Sr., of New Albany, IN; four grandchildren, Mary M. Heath and Allison Heath of Charleston, WV, Lacey (Chris) Decker, and Shelby (James) Lutz of New Albany, IN, and four great-grandchildren, Layla Decker, Levi Decker, Heidi Lutz, and Emmett Lutz. Visitation will be held at Manakee Funeral Home, 2098 Leitchfield Road (US. 62), in Elizabethtown, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, May 14, 2022. Funeral Services will be held at Manakee Funeral Home at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 14, with Pastor Ben Humphries officiating.
